GELCO high sensitive current operated Earth Leakage Circuit Breakers are designed to give protection by disconnecting the supply against risk of dangerous & possible lethal electronic shocks. It detects dangerous leakage current exceeding the generally accepted safe limit of 30 ma & isolates the effected section of installation. It confirms to BS standard 4293:1983.
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION:
GELCO high sensitive current operated Earth leakage Circuit Breaker incorporates an active current transformer, to sense the sum of all current to be normally zero. Any leakage to earth is sensed as unbalance creates small voltage signal in secondary winding fed to highly sensitive electronic circuit, where it actuates the relay which triggers the tripping mechanisms of MCB.
SENSITIVITY & SPEED OF OPERATION:
The sensitivity of current operated EL + MCB & Shockguard (ELCB) is usually stated in terns of their rated tripping current, say generally accepted limit of 30 mA (can be upto 100 mA). It trips within 30 msec when leakage exceeds the safe limit.
PROTECTION:
GELCO EL+MCB consists of MCB which gives protection against overload & short circuit. It can be easily reset by MCB lever. It also gives High/Low voltage protection (optional). GELCO Shockguard (ELCB) does not provide overload and short circuit protection. It has High/Low voltage protections.
TEST DEVICE:
To check the operation of the EL+MCB & Shockguard (ELCB), test CKT is incorporated, By pressing push button on from side, artificial leakage is created. Electronic circuit senses the leakage current & trips the EL+MCB & Shockguard (ELCB) in order of sensitivity.
HOW IT OPERATES:
Normally current flowing trough phase passes through the neutral through load so resultant voltage in active transformer is zero. I case of any leakage, core balance transformer senses as unbalance & small signal voltage is generated in secondary winding is fed to solid state electronic circuit of EL+MCB & Shockguard (ELCB), Which amplifies the small signal & trips the mechanism & thus isolates the defective installation.

SHOCKGUARD
